The new orders and protocols, now being piloted at Christ Medical Center select the current standard of practice for heart-failure care at major medical centers throughout the country. Written for physicians and nurses, the orders will allow home-care nurses to adjust diuretic medications if the patient shows signs and symptoms of fluid overload and to draw labs as appropriate in a timely manner. The goal is to keep the heart-failure patient more stable, thereby preventing untimely hospital readmissions.
